Pogue Unplugged > Wedding Album > The Ballad of D & J
The Ballad of D & J
"The Ballad of D & J," performed by a cappella choir and three soloists, was intended to introduce the bride's friends in the audience to the groom's friends, and vice versa. ("D" and "J" refer, of course, to David and Jennifer.)
I'm not expecting many requests for THIS song for performance at other weddings!
Music and lyrics by David Pogue, ©1995. Soloists: Peter Yonka, George Dvorsky.

Welcome to this most enchanted day!
We have come from far and wide
To marry D. and J.
But before "love, honor, and obey,"
Let us introduce you
To the bride and groom -- our way!
D.
Was born in March, '63,
You see he
Was born the youngest of three.
And at 2,
The tunes he would sing
Started to swing,
You see, mu-
sic was his thing.
J.
Thought being born here was a bore
And they say
That's why she chose Singapore.
By age three, supposedly she'd
Earned a degree--
Hail the new MD.
Music and medicine are one,
Science and magic, daughter, son.
Meet the fiancé, and fiancée,
Come hear the song of D. and J.!
Well now, D.
Grew up out Ohio way,
And he'd be
In every musical play.
And he figured out in grade six,
How to meet chicks:
He did magic tricks.
Meanwhile J.
Was back in U.S. of A,
And one day,
A tennis ball bounced her way.
And when play-
ers came to observe,
They'd lose their nerve,
You see, J.
Was born to serve!
Science and sorcery, and then
Music and medicine, amen!
Surgeon met cutup, one summer day...
And that's the song of D. and J.!
OK, D.'s
Had four bright years there at Yale
When he sees
A Mac computer for sale.
In a blur,
His interest peaks,
And within weeks
The kid's wor-
shipped by the geeks!
Of course, J.
Has spent those same years at Brown
But no way
Is she about to settle down.
For M.D.s, as we all know,
Schooling is slow,
She had ten more years to go!
Then one summer night two years ago
She had come to see, and he was in,
A summer show.
There they met, not a mile from this spot:
Under summer starlight,
In a theatre parking lot!
Music and magic started there
Music and magic everywhere.
Their lives together began that day...
And that's the song of D. and--
It's all along been D. and--
Yes, that's the song of D. and J!
