The Vow
"The Vow" was the finale of the wedding.
(As for the lyrics "sunshine like this:" The wedding was outdoors. Was it risky to write lyrics about sunshine when we had no idea what the weather would be like? Yes. Was the weather, in fact, sunny? Yes.)
Music and lyrics by David Pogue, ©1995. Orchestrations by Steven M. Alper.

I won't promise you unalloyed bliss,
Free from problems or pain;
I won't promise you sunlight like this,
Free from unforeseen rain.
I can't promise perfection
In the years that unfold.
I would promise the world, if I could,
Those fortunes can't be foretold.
But the one promise I'll make
Is the one promise worth making;
To love you in my way, more every day,
Through the years.
And the one promise I'll keep
Is the one promise worth keeping,
To live up to the vow I'm making now;
Let it begin.
What will become
Of the plans we have made
As the years hurry by?
Time will tell
If our fortunes will fade;
We won't know will we try.
But if you are beside me,
Let misfortune befall
For when I hear your laughter
Just after a storm,
Matters don't matter at all!
For the one promise I'll make
Is the one promise forever
To love you all I can and it began
Here today.
And the one promise I'll keep
Is the one promise worth keeping:
Through each decade to come,
Loving you from
This moment on.
Hold me... hold me...
Hold me to my vow!
It's the one promise I'll make,
And the one promise worth making;
To love you in my way, more every day,
Let it begin!
Hold me to my vow!
